The kitchen is most likely the space of the house where we spend more time. It is no longer a place only to cook, but rather a place where we share good moments between family and friends. And to better preserve the environment in this space, nothing better than applying the rule of 5R’s, that can make the kitchen even more pleasant and sustainable.

RECYCLE
Every time you go to the market to buy fruits and vegetables, take your own bags from home, in order to save and preserve the environment by reducing the number of pollutants. Still, it is important to note that plastic bags shouldn’t be reused a lot of times since they release microplastics that are very harmful to the human body. Therefore, when the bag is already used a couple of times, put it in the recycling bin.

REDUCE
While preparing your meals it is normal to produce waste that you will not use, such as stalks, peels and other organic compounds considered as wastes. But they are not! Many of these elements can be used in a composting process to be converted into fertilizer. You should invest in a household composter and use about 460 kg of organic waste per year in your family!

REUSE
Did you know that 1 liter of oil contaminates about 1 million liters of water? This ratio is frightening, but it has a very simple solution. Reusing the oil you would ordinarily dispose down the drain is the best solution. In the case of the oil from tuna cans, it can be used to make the stew! See how simple and original it is?

RETHINK
According to proven studies, using the dishwasher is the most cost-effective solution (in terms of water and detergent usage), but if the amount of tableware is not enough to fill a machine, washing the dishes by hand is the best option.

REFUSE
When cleaning our kitchens it is very common to use detergents with lots of chemicals and even perfum to convey a true sense of cleanliness. However, these products have some extremely harmful agents for human health and the environment. Therefore, don’t use them again and opt for biodegradable and environmentally friendly cleaning products.
