A multifunctional kitchen in a former storage room
A naturally lit storage space and spacious terrace had served as a multipurpose area for a large family—an office, a playroom, and an outdoor leisure space. However, it lacked cohesion, organization, and a defined aesthetic.
The potential was clear. The transformation brought comfort, functionality, and a brand-new purpose: an extended living space featuring an office, a lounge area, a garden terrace with a dining zone, and a multifunctional kitchen—perfect for work breaks and social gatherings.
Step 1: Bringing comfort to a multipurpose space
The first step in this transformation was to enhance comfort. The interior designer installed wooden slatted panels for a modern touch and to improve the room’s acoustics. This simple change made the former storage room feel more cohesive, stylish, and welcoming.
Step 2: Creating a multifunctional kitchen
One of the highlights of this renovation was the creation of a multifunctional kitchen—or, as interior designer Ana Antunes calls it, a functional kitchen bar. Unlike a conventional kitchen, the kitchen has a decorative ceramic backsplash that adds a tropical yet subtly masculine feel to the area.
What’s essential in any kitchen?
A sink and tap were must-haves to ensure practicality, whether for coffee breaks or meals on the terrace. Ana Antunes selected RODI’s Composite 50 Nero sink and Line MN 807 PT mixer tap, bringing style and efficiency to the space.
Composite 50 Nero sink: Sleek and durable, its matte black finish adds a modern, sophisticated touch.
Line MN 807 B tap: This tap features a 360° swivel spout and a pull-out spray, blending versatility with elegant design.
Ghost Drainer: A practical accessory that maximizes workspace and makes the worktop look tidy.
Step 3: A garden to welcome family and friends
The transformation extended beyond the interior. The terrace is now a lush garden structured into three distinct zones: a lounge area, a barbecue space, and a dining area.
The black and white colour palette ensures a seamless connection between the indoor and outdoor areas, enhancing the space’s elegance and harmony.
Step 4: Redesigning the office and lounge area
The office and lounge remained in the previous layout but with a fresh, cosy new look—perfect for everyday comfort and relaxation.
An amazing result
The before and after of this project couldn’t be more impressive. The former storage room is now a functional and cosy space with a multifunctional kitchen. The terrace, now a lush green garden, completes this inspiring renovation.
